Awards and Prizes

For the second year of DRFF, submissions were opened to filmmakers all over the world to enter for chance to be selected as an official screening of the festival and win awards.

Submissions to the festival are evaluated in an array of categories with following awards to be given:

  1. Best Animated Short – Trophy, Certificate Portfolio
  2. Best Documentary Short – Trophy, Certificate Portfolio
  3. Best Documentary Feature – Trophy, Certificate Portfolio
  4. Best Short Film – Trophy, Certificate Portfolio
  5. Best Student Film – $500, Trophy, Certificate Portfolio
  6. People's Choice Award – $1000, Trophy, Certificate Portfolio
  7. Best Regional Film – $1000, Trophy, Certificate Portfolio

The 2016 DRFF awards will be announced at the closing cocktail reception at the RMG Sunday, September 18. The winners will then be posted to the website. Awards and certificates will be mailed out following the festival.

Sharyn Joffe-Cardone

Sharyn Joffe-Cardone

Sharyn Joffe-Cardone is a five-time Emmy Award winning Producer/Editor currently residing in New York City. Mrs. Joffe-Cardone grew up in Thornhill, Ontario and received her BFA in Film Studies from Ryerson University, as well as a post-graduate certificate in Post Production from Humber College. Upon graduation, she began her career at VH1 and has been working for MSG Networks for the past eight years.

Jennifer Sunnerton

Jennifer Sunnerton

Jenn Sunnerton is the CEO of Moko Media, a video-marketing company based in Durham Region. Her specialty is helping companies grow their sales through the use of video. Jenn started her career as a producer with the Discovery Channel and other major broadcasters—a position she held for more than 10 years before quickly moving into Senior Producer and Executive Producer roles that focused on show and story development.
