Investment Opportunities

The overall goal of the Economic Development and Tourism Division is to attract new foreign direct investment to the Region of Durham, by working with municipal, regional, provincial and federal partners; and to promote the Region’s value proposition to businesses in key sectors in priority markets. The primary activity of the Investment Attraction team is to generate and handle investment inquiries, and to convert these into successful investment within the Region.

To achieve this goal, the Investment Attraction team’s activities are focused on three priority areas:

  1. Building the recognition of Durham in key international markets by participating in investment missions to key markets and for priority sectors.
  2. Introducing a new inquiry handling system, to be able to track investment leads requires an inquiry tracking and client management system.
  3. Connecting with the Region’s existing foreign-owned companies to strengthen our understanding of the region’s value propositions and strengths, which can inform our current investment promotion activities.

Beyond these priorities the team is undertaking a number of other activities that will enable the business unit to have a greater impact on investors and the Region. many of these will involve the work of other business units in economic development and the Region of Durham. For example, hosting incoming missions and delegations, and updating the investment attraction marketing material.
